The GHG emission of the global transportation sector is the second largest at 24% and is rising with growing passenger travel and global trade. At 72% the road transport sector contributes the maximum. Plugging the “tail pipe emission” through electrification of road transport is now a global priority. Nations and auto manufacturers are making huge investments for the clean mobility transition. EVs will be a significant contributor to emission reduction only when the electricity used to manufacture them and to charge the batteries result in far less emission than the diesel and gasoline vehicles they replace. With thermal power generation still being the significant contributor to electricity generation, successful transition to clean mobility is closely linked to the clean energy transition.
